Description
1929 Green Bay Packers Team Signed Panoramic Photograph from Team's First Championship Season. Heritage Auction Galleries is proud to present this spectacular piece of professional football history, which originated from the family of former assistant field manager of the Green Bay Packers, French Yeager. This crystal clear 10x19.5" original sepia image represents the Packers' first ever championship team, which was led by coach Curly Lambeau, and is signed in gorgeous black fountain pen by 22 members of the undefeated squad. The only other known example signed by that season's team resides in the confines of the Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame at Lambeau Field. However, this exemplar is extra significant, due to the high-quality signatures and exemplary condition, which is accented on this photo. In fact, this piece was properly stored in a frame, where it was displayed in the Yeager family's Green Bay home for many years.
Every player on the Packers' roster during that special season, except Hall of Famer Johnny "Blood" McNally, who was believed to have been in the hospital at the time the picture was signed, is presented in spectacular black fountain pen.
The following signatures are included: Curly Lambeau (6.5/10), Eddie Kotal (7/10), Red Smith (6/10), "Red" Dunn (8/10), Bo Molenda (6/10), Tom Nash (8/10), Cal Hubbard (8/10), Verne Lewellen (7/10), Herdis McCrary (8/10), Dave Zuidmulder, Bill Kern (7/10), Cully Lidberg (6/10), Dick O'Donnell (7/10), Roger Ashmore (8/10), Paul Minick (8/10), Jim Bowdoin (7/10), Jug Earp (8/10), Mike Michalske (7/10), Whitey Woodin (6/10), Claude Perry (7/10), Boob Darling (7/10), Lavvie Dilweg (6/10).
There are no tack holes, or major flaws of any kind on this gridiron treasure. No stampings are present on the verso of this image, which is noted as being issued by the "Atlantic Foto Service," on the front bottom right corner. The slightest amount of cracking is exhibited near the edges of this piece, but virtually no defects come near the autographs.
Unquestionably, this piece would prove suitable for the prominent displays in Canton's Hall of Fame. However, the winning bidder of this showpiece will presumably feel just as content with it being displayed on the walls of his home's Packers shrine. Letter from Family of Packers Assistant Trainer. Pre-certified by PSA/DNA. Auction LOA from James Spence Authentication.
