Description

1966 Roberto Clemente Original Artwork by Handrille. A distinguished career continues with this painting's offering in a Heritage Signature Auction, and we aren't talking about the subject. The impressive multimedia work on artist's board was originally commissioned by Sports Illustrated and published in the March 7, 1966 issue, a copy of which is included in this lot. Seventeen years later the work resurfaced in the summer of 1983 in a Baseball Hall of Fame exhibit called "The Fine Art of Baseball." Will it turn up in your personal collection next? The stirring study of the tragic Roberto Clemente is masterfully rendered and impressively large (18x29"). Signed in pencil by the artist, "R. Handrille," who also notates at bottom, "Roberto Clemente, Commissioned by Sports Illustrated." An impressive framing job expands the complete dimensions to 26x38".
