Description

1908 World Series (Chicago) Program. Now just months past its centennial, this exceedingly scarce publication ranks just behind the Bible for devout Cubs fans, marking the last October that there was joy in that half of the Windy City. This specimen was scored for the second game of the Fall Classic, a pitcher's duel until the bottom of the eighth inning, when Tinker's home run blast opened the floodgates and propelled Chicago to a six to nothing lead, answered only by a single Cobb r.b.i. in the top of the ninth to close out the scoring.

An ancient clipping from the following day's paper is affixed at the top edge with paste over the Tigers' side of the center score sheet, allowing the reader to flip it up and read both sides of the neatly penned tallies, though the passing decades have seen the pages toned where the newspaper touches. Moderate wear (some minor scattered paper loss, inch-long tear at upper left), toning to the covers and a couple of vertical folds do little to distract the eye, and the sixteen-page relic remains tightly bound by its original staples. It must be properly stressed that these condition issues do not come close to undermining the tremendous desirability of this magnificent rarity, present in only the finest and most comprehensive of World Series and/or Chicago Cubs collections.
