Description

1920 Bob Emslie Single Signed Baseball, Umpire for Merkle's Boner. Furious Giants manager John McGraw dubbed Emslie "Blind Bob" after the call which robbed New York of its 1908 pennant-clinching victory, but Emslie had the last laugh, showing up at a Giants practice with a rifle over his shoulder. Emslie placed a dime on the pitching rubber and retreated to his umpiring position behind home plate. Aiming and firing, Emslie sent the dime skipping into the outfield. McGraw never used the nickname again. The presented ball is the only known autograph from this notorious umpire, the black fountain pen inscription applied to a side panel of the ONL (Heydler) model. A date of "1920" appears on the opposing panel. Please note that the lack of known exemplars makes standard authentication impossible, but Heritage is as confident as can be of the signature's legitimacy. No third party paperwork will be available, however, due to the ball's singular status.
