Description

1949 Independence (MO) Yankees Team Signed Baseball with Mickey Mantle. The Mick was just a seventeen year old shortstop when he autographed this "Official South Atlantic League" baseball with fifteen other members of his first professional team. The early signature variation at the top of the eastern panel is unquestionably Mantle's toughest, and it registers at an impressive 9/10 strength. While the names of his other teammates will be familiar to few, the original owner of the ball did apparently take it four hours east on Interstate 70 to St. Louis, where he had it autographed by Schoendienst, Slaughter, Musial and Garagiola of the Cardinals. These autographs rate 5/10 to 7/10. According to our records, this is just the second 1949 Independence Yankees team ball to reach a major auction block in the past dozen years, so be prepared for a long wait if you miss out on this presented representation. Auction LOA from James Spence Authentication. Full LOA from PSA/DNA.
