Description
1930's D146 Doughnut Co. of America "Thrilling Moments..." Uncut Two-Panel Partial Box With Babe Ruth. To the best of our research, this is only the second known piece of uncut packaging from this obscure series. This 72-card set is titled "Thrilling Moments in the Lives of Famous Americans" with 18 cards making up the sides of donut boxes. The full box consisted of three sides with six cards on each side and a bottom panel with copy/advertising, a list of the subjects included on the full box and a biography of Teddy Roosevelt. This rare 12" x 6-1/2" uncut panel represents the bottom and front of an original box that features the key subject in the series-Babe Ruth! An album was also design to house the cards but packaging artifacts are rarely, if ever seen. Presenting at the excellent to near mint level, the piece does show a few light creases but none that affect the treasured 2-color illustration of Ruth. The other subjects are Abraham Lincoln, Betsy Ross, Frank Buck, the Wright Brothers and Davy Crockett. The Ross and F. Buck cards are affected by the factory die cut half circle that aided opening the box to get to the sugary treats inside. An opportunity to find intact-partial or otherwise-- packaging from the 1930's just don't present themselves with any regularity.
