Description
1994-95 Wayne Gretzky Game Worn Jersey. Almost universally considered to be the greatest hockey player of all time, Gretzky is the owner of forty regular season records, fifteen playoff records, six All-Star records, four Stanley Cup titles, nine MVP awards and ten scoring titles. At the 2000 NHL All-Star Game, the League announced that Gretzky's number "99" jersey was to be retired League-wide, an honor shared only by the heroic Jackie Robinson in the four major sports. This particular number "99" jersey was worn by The Great One during his second to last year in the City of Angels, a season shortened by the lock-out that nonetheless saw him post forty-eight points in as many games. Gretzky's captain's "C" appears at upper left chest, just to the northwest of the bold grey, white and black team crest that commands the center. "Gretzky 99" is applied to verso, with his double-nines appearing again upon each sleeve. Authenticator Rich Ellis notes that these sleeves provide Gretzky's special customizations, with proper shortening and tapering to match known exemplars. A velcro patch at rear interior hem is likewise a known Gretzky trait, and Kings trainer Peter Millar's initials appear on the reverse of the "CCM" lettering. Collar holds proper "CCM [size] 56" tagging. A flawless black sharpie signature on rear numerals from Gretzky completes this intensely desirable package. Ironclad provenance comes in the form of a signed letter from Gretzky himself, who attests upon Phoenix Coyotes letterhead that he personally gave the jersey to a Kings locker room attendant around March of 1995.
