Description
1940s Boston Olympics Game Worn Jersey. Building on the Beantown hockey tradition cemented by the success Eddie Shore's Boston Bruins enjoyed in the National Hockey League, the amateur club the Boston Olympics was founded in 1934. Operating until 1952, in the Eastern Hockey League from 1940 on, the Olympics came to be one of the premier minor league teams around. Their dominance was so pronounced that they won the EHL championship four straight years from 1943-47.Dating from that decade that saw so much success from the Beantown club, here we offer a glorious example of the wool sweaters worn by the Olympics. The white gamer is trimmed with blue and red striping and dons the team's recognizable Flying O crest on the chest. Verso includes a 9" "2" applied in blue-on-red felt. Condition is excellent for a vintage wool of this caliber, having no holes and one team repair in the left elbow. Staining found in the tail and just beneath the crest on the jersey front. Easily one of the finest Olympics sweaters in existence.
This fine garment comes to us from the grandson of former head supervisor of the Boston Parks & Recreation Department James J. Dana, who skated in a few exhibitions with the club. Dana rarely let this shirt see the light of day, a fortunate development for those interested in the gem today. A fine rarity from the rich and storied history of Beantown ice hockey. Will include letter from James DeMarco, grandson of James J. Dana. Guide Value or Estimate: $2,500 - $3,500.
