Description

1968 Al Lopez Game Worn Jersey. Just four days after the Chicago White Sox ended eighty-eight years of suffering with a clinching Game Four victory in the 2005 World Series, the ninety-seven year old Hall of Famer drifted away into immortality. Here we present a home white pinstriped flannel worn during Lopez' final games at the helm of that squad, a full forty years after he first suited up in a Big League uniform as a catcher for the Brooklyn Dodgers. The team logo "Sox" is applied with navy and white tackle twill over the heart, with number "42" at right chest. Number "42" is repeated on verso, and an Illinois Sesquicentennial patch appears at left sleeve. A chain stitched swatch reading "Lopez" is sewn to interior collar, with dual "Wilson" labeling in the tail announcing size "42" and "1968 Set 1." Strong wear throughout suggests a possible second tour of duty in the minors subsequent to Lopez' use. A rare opportunity to bring one of the game's greatest ambassadors into your game used jersey collection. Please note: name has been removed from verso, almost certainly due to subsequent use in the minor leagues. LOA from Lou Lampson.
