Description

1890's Reach Button-Back Glove. Fine early specimen was state of the art during the era of King Kelly and Cap Anson despite the fact that it bears a closer similarity to a pot holder than baseball gloves of today. These ancient button-back gloves are typically fraught with condition problems, with many losing the delicate wrist strap or the webbing between the thumb and index finger. Such is not the case here, as the deep brown leather has weathered the passing decades with few problems. Only the seam that holds the palm padding in place is at issue here, and this has no real effect upon the display. The proper period "Reach" label remains firmly affixed at the base of the wrist strap, and the original button holds that strap in place. A tremendously attractive piece for the avid baseball historian.
