Description

1880's Heubach Large Baseball Statue. Produced by Gebruder Heubach, an active manufacturer in Lichten, Germany from 1840 to 1925, this scarce Victorian-era artifact represents the rarest and most desirable of early baseball figurines. While a scant few smaller representations of this bisque doll have managed to reach the auction block, almost never do we see the large fourteen-inch variation, which we offer here. Clearly this is due to a limited production run resulting from the considerable price tag on the larger figurines at the time of initial sale. We must also consider that the ravages of time have played their part in diminishing what were never sizable ranks--the nature of the piece is certainly quite delicate and fragile. Our offering has been spared even a hint of damage, however, and presents in legitimate NRMT condition, looking not a day older than it did when the last dabs of hand painted detail were applied by the skilled artisan who made it.
