Description

1887 "Our National Game" Albums Lot of 2. The perfect marriage of nineteenth century baseball allure and Victorian era lithography, this pair of large scrapbooks (11x14" and 12x15" respectively) features ornate images of the early game. The impressive covers, with imprinted lettering and detail, give way to interior pages with six different artistic renditions of baseball action with titles like Wild Pitch, Caught Between Bases, and Fly Ball. The players wear fantastic period uniforms, and the fielders wear no gloves. The larger album has a wide assortment of Victorian trade cards glued onto the blank pages, with amazing images of flowers, dolls and birds, while the smaller album has no such additions. Overall condition is technically EX, but the vintage patina only adds to the appeal of this gorgeous pair.
