Description

1916 "Babe Ruth" Game Ticket Stub. Intriguing early relic dates to just ten days after the twenty-one year old Bambino pitched his historic fourteen inning complete game victory over the Brooklyn Robins in the second contest of the 1916 World Series. The difficulty in researching non-sanctioned games close to a century ago has hampered our ability to provide details about the October 19, 1916 event, but clearly the young Red Sox pitcher was a participant in this match at Bayside, in the outskirts of the city of Boston. Predating by over a decade the famous Bustin' Babes barnstorming tour, the presented ticket is unquestionably the earliest known to name the man who would become baseball's greatest star. The stub measures 1.75x3.5" in size, with an inconsequential tiny stain at left edge but otherwise no flaws of note. Blank back.
