Description
1967-68 Pete Maravich Game Worn Jersey. Many years after Pistol Pete's collegiate career was over, former LSU head basketball coach Dale Brown charted every college game in which Maravich played, and every basket he had sunk. Calculating the three-point line at nineteen feet nine inches from the rim, a line that did not exist during Maravich's playing days, Brown was able to ascertain that the young superstar would have averaged thirteen three-pointers per game, which would have resulted in a career average of fifty-seven points per contest. As it currently stands, Maravich's 44.2 points per game and 3,667 total points remain the NCAA Division I records, despite the fact that the rules of the day prohibited the Pistol from playing varsity ball as a freshman. The presented treasure is practically a religious artifact to the multitudes of fans that idolized Maravich and his distinctive, dynamic style. It dates to his sophomore season at LSU, his first on the Louisiana State University varsity squad. During his twenty-six games of action this season, Pistol Pete posted 1,138 points, an average of 43.8 per game. Crafted from white durene that exhibits solid, consistent wear throughout, the glorious Tigers gamer announces "LSU 23" upon the chest in purple and yellow tackle twill, with number "23" repeated on verso in larger format. The jersey tagging is located at lower interior rear tail, and includes "Rawlings [size] 42" and washing instructions labels. The jersey remains 100% original and unaltered from its days with the nineteen-year old Maravich.
Sourced directly from Pete's widow Jackie Maravich, the jersey offers unimpeachable provenance to match its other flawless qualities. Finding not a single stone to throw at this special artifact, the experts at MEARS have assigned a grade of A10, a ruling that conclusively establishes this representation as the most important and desirable Maravich jersey on the face of the earth. Letter of provenance from Jackie Maravich. LOA from MEARS. LOA from Lou Lampson.
