Description

1964-65 Bobby Orr Oshawa Generals Game Worn Jacket. Owned and worn by a sixteen-year old legend in the making, the presented jacket stands as the earliest uniform piece of this iconic Hall of Famer ever to be placed upon the auction block. Bobby Orr was signed by the Boston Bruins at the tender age of twelve, and began play for the Oshawa Generals of the junior league Ontario Hockey Association at fourteen, competing against players as many as six years his elder. NHL rules dictated that Orr could not join the Bruins before his eighteenth birthday, but his path to the League was well established at the time he sported this blue leather jacket in Oshawa. In 1966 he would officially sign with the Bruins for a $25,000 salary, three times the rookie average. The contract would make him the highest-paid player in NHL history.

This treasure in blue leather exhibits marvelous wear by the teenaged phenom, and features three chenille patches, as follows. Over the heart, "Oshawa Generals." At right sleeve, the jersey number "2." At left sleeve, "O.H.A., Jr. 'A,' 64-65." We can assure that these patches are original and unmoved, linking the jacket indisputably to Orr. "Craft of Canada" label remains at interior collar.

Provenance tracks the jacket back to Bobby's father Doug Orr, who gifted the jacket to a family friend. Years later a dealer of hockey memorabilia ended up with the jacket at the Toronto Expo. While we have heard of the existence of two Oshawa Orr jerseys, none have ever been presented at public auction. This outrageously scarce relic would stand as a highlight piece in the museum of the Hockey Hall of Fame, and certainly figures to occupy the focal point of any private collection.
