1998 Mark McGwire Game Worn Uniform To those who believe that Big Mac's accomplishments in 1998 were somehow diminished by those of Bonds in 2001, we must respectfully disagree. Though McGwire's record was still in diapers when it was felled by Barry, the latter never captured the imagination of the baseball world the way the Sosa - McGwire chase of '98 did. Just like the Babe "saved" baseball after the Black Sox scandal with his thunderous bat, so did the Cardinals slugger after the sport took a big hit from the 1994 strike. It was McGwire who chipped through the hard shell of cynicism that was left behind by the cancelled season and let us look upon the game again with new eyes. While a handful of jerseys from that special season have found their way to the auction block, it's particularly rare to find a shirt with the matching pants, as we have here. The combination offers a greatly heightened opportunity for display, and we would expect that the winning bidder would be shopping for a mannequin as soon as the hammer falls. The shirt offers the most attractive of all baseball logos, with the chenille birds and bat rising above the classically scripted "Cardinals" on the chest. "McGwire 25" is sewn in red and navy tackle twill on verso. Just above the custom-shortened inner tail is the proper "Rawlings" label with "52" and "Set 1 1998" flap tags affixed. The matching pants offer the same "Rawlings" label beside a machine embroidered swatch that reads, "McGwire 25 36-39 37 98." Both pieces show wear that makes us wonder, how many trips around the bases did they take? After all, with McGwire hitting a home run in almost every other game, there is virtually no chance that this uniform could be a long ball virgin. 2001 Barry Bonds Career Home Runs #559 & #560 Game Used Bat. Rookie San Diego pitcher Jason Middlebrook was victimized twice by the game's most prolific long ball artist on September 23, 2001 with the bat we present here, wielded by Bonds as he moved within four homers of Mark McGwire's short-lived single season record. Though Bonds has since found himself at the center of one of the game's greatest scandals, we prefer to see that glass as half full, understanding that a Barry Bonds home run bat from 2001 will one day be seen in the same light as Joe Jackson's from the 1919 Series. The fact that the homers came less than two weeks after one of the most significant events in American history further establishes the offering as one for the ages. The bat is uncracked and shows excellent use, with several ball and stitch marks evident on left, right and back barrel. Bonds' preferred manner of taping the handle is also in effect here. Sam Bat's unique style of notating all specs by hand on the barrel's end are in place, reading "34, 31.7 oz, 06 09 01, B2K1, B.B.," to indicate length, weight, manufacturing date, model number and Bonds' initials respectively. The barrel is signed by Bonds in flawless silver sharpie, and notated in his hand, "9-23-01, #559 #560." Bonds' personal holographic authenticating sticker is affixed nearby. The fine use, historical relevance and ironclad provenance result in a perfect GU10 grade. Love him or hate him, Barry Bonds will always be the face of baseball at the start of the new millenium. Joe DiMaggio's Final Home Run Baseball, Hit in Game Four of 1951 World Series. The sweetest swing in baseball history was responsible for 369 home runs in Big League competition, with 361 coming during the regular season and the balance of eight dating to the Fall Classic. Here we present what is arguably the most significant of them all, the ball that recorded the 369th and final round-tripper for the man they called the Yankee Clipper. Just across the Harlem River from the stadium that he consecrated with thirteen seasons of Hall of Fame service, DiMaggio launched this ONL (Frick) delivered by pitcher Sal Maglie into deep left field to open up a four to one lead and move one step closer to ending the 1951 Giants' fairy tale story punctuated by Bobby Thomson's "Shot" on the same Polo Grounds field five days earlier.

Historic home run artifacts continue to capture the imagination of the collecting world unlike any other baseball collectibles, with Mark McGwire's 1998 record-setting ball and Babe Ruth's first Yankee Stadium home run bat the only two non-card lots to top one million dollars at auction. Surely it goes without saying that the final home run baseball from one of the most iconic figures in American sports carries tremendous historical import. The connection to this unforgettable Subway Series, which brought Big Apple legends DiMaggio, Mickey Mantle and Willie Mays together in combat for the only time, is just the icing on the cake.

Ironclad provenance is delivered in several forms. First, we have a typed, signed letter dated October 24, 1951 from the gentleman who caught the baseball to his nephews, making note of the gift. He writes, in part, "Under separate cover you will receive a package containing a baseball. It is not just an ordinary baseball but one that is autographed by Joe DiMaggio.
