Description

1983 Diego Maradona Signed Argentinian Certificate of Registration. A fascinating and deeply personal relic from the life of an elite soccer icon that ties to one of soccer's most memorable transactions! Diego Maradona's transfer from Boca Juniors to FC Barcelona for the 1982-83 season was headline news in the global soccer community, and his $7.6 million transfer fee was a world-record. That soaring price paid off for the Blaugrana as Maradona led the Catalan squad to the 1983 Copa Del Rey title, a win that came at the expense of FC Barcelona's archrival Real Madrid. In the historic El Clasico victory, Maradona was given an ovation for his performance by Los Merengues supporters, a first in the long-standing rivalry.

Our understanding of this document is it served as a record for the Argentine Consulate in Spain to keep track of Argentine nationals residing in the country. Including Argentina's most precious export, the greatest player in the world. Supporting this assertion is the following translation of the text:

"The Consul General of the Argentine Republic certifies that Mr. Diego Armando Maradona, domiciled at San Francisco 21, Barcelona, resident in the consular district since July 29, 1983, where he is a Soccer player whose affiliation is detailed below, born in Buenos Aires, Argentina on October 30, 1960, the son of Dalma Salvadora Franco is registered as an Argentine citizen under number 52/84 of the Matricula de Residentes Argentinos registry kept at this Consular Office."

That's Maradona's signature (9/10) at lower left and his fingerprint at lower right. His profession is listed as "Futbolista" and the diminutive Argentine is pictured in his red and blue Barcelona kit. The 9x6.5" certificate is folded into quarters, but this does not cause significant distraction, as our imagery should indicate. An incredibly unique piece with international intrigue from a global icon. Plus, a bold autograph and fingerprint from one of the greatest to ever take the pitch.
