2003 Panini Mega Craques Cristiano Ronaldo Rookie #137, PSA Gem Mint 10. A quintessential rags to riches story, Cristiano Ronaldo was born into an impoverished Catholic family, sharing a single room with his three siblings. With his mother's blessing, he left school at age fourteen to focus full time on football, a decision that would pay off in spades. By sixteen, Ronaldo had joined Sporting CP's youth team and subsequently became the first person to play for the club's under-16, under-17, and under-18 teams, the B team and the first team all within a single season.After Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson got a good look at Ronaldo during a 3-1 defeat against Sporting, he was determined to acquire the rising star referring to him as "one of the most exciting young players" he had ever seen. During his time in Manchester, Ronaldo blossomed into a bona fide superstar. Simultaneously rising through the ranks on the national team to become Portugal's captain.
