    Description

2000 Sydney Olympics Gold Medal Presented to American Swimmer Brooke Bennett (800M). Four years after conquering the world in Atlanta, Ms. Bennett shaved eight seconds off her time in those Games to set an Olympic record of 8:19.67 and repeat as Gold Medalist in Women's 800 Meter Freestyle, leaving no doubt that she was the best female distance swimmer on Earth. Presented is the medal that hung around Bennett's neck as the Star Spangled Banner echoed through the Sydney International Aquatic Centre.

The design of the obverse is nearly identical to the Atlanta medal, with seated victory holding a laurel wreath on obverse in front of the Colosseum. Verso features the logo of the Sydney Games and reports, "Swimming, Women's 800M Freestyle."

Just 1,000 Gold Medals were crafted for the Sydney Games, each weighing 188 grams and measuring sixty-eight millimeters (68mm) in diameter. Medal hangs from original turquoise ribbon, with minimal toning at edge of obverse, otherwise effectively pristine. One of three Bennett medals presented within this Signature auction.
