    Description

Circa 1908 Horace Ramey Chicago Athletic Association Worn Cross Country Jersey and Cap.

UPDATE: There are two caps in this lot.

One of several lots within this Platinum Night auction consigned by the family of American middle distance runner Horace Ramey, who ran for the American team in the 400 and 800 meter races. In the former, Ramey made it to semifinals, where he was eliminated by fellow American John Taylor, who would become the first black Olympic Gold Medalist at these Games.

Presented here is a wool cotton Chicago Athletic Association cross country jersey that was worn by Ramey circa 1908 (Spalding tag in interior). Exhibiting solid condition with a very few small holes throughout, it is accompanied by a matching cap. Letter of provenance from family of Horace Ramey. LOA from Heritage Auctions.
