1908 London Summer Olympics USA Track & Field Team Signed Real Photo Postcards Lot of 60. Fascinating one-of-a-kind collection comes to us from the family of Horace Patton Ramey, a middle-distance runner from the University of Michigan who competed in the 400m and 800m races at the 1908 London Games. Ramey was a souvenir collector who acquired real photo postcards of all of his American teammates and then presented them to each for signing, creating what is almost certainly the only comprehensive set from these historic early Olympics.

A comprehensive Excel spreadsheet of signers will be made available to those interested bidders who request it, but we will report the medalists here: Cloughen, Hillman, Ewry, Biller, Jacobs, Shaw, Garrells, Coe, Bellows, Kelly, Bacon, Rich, Cartmell.

Each postcard measures 3.5x5.5" in size, averaging EX with autographs applied in 8/10 or better black fountain pen ink with only a few exceptions. A couple unsigned postcards and several photos of athletes enjoying the Atlantic crossing are likewise included in this lot.

Also presented as a separate lot within this auction is the signed postcard of John Baxter Taylor, Jr., the first man of African descent to win Olympic Gold, an exceedingly rare autograph as Taylor would die later that year, a victim of the 1908 typhoid epidemic.
