1967 Jesse Owens Signed "Drake Relays" Baton. In the Spring of 1967, our consignor qualified to go to the Drake Relays, in Des Moines, Iowa as a talented shot-putter. After finishing his event one runner told him that Olympic legend Jesse Owens was signing batons for the relay runners. Our consignor ran up to Owens and asked if he would signed a baton for him. Owens took a glance at our then 250 pound shot-putter, while smiling, and asked "What relay do you run?" Offered here is that baton, signed by Owens in 7/10 blue felt-tip ink. Baton exhibits light wear and measures at 11.25". Auction LOA from JSA. LOA from consignor.

The hammer price for my Mantle card significantly exceeded my admittedly conservative estimations, and I couldn't be more pleased.
