Description

C. 1912 Jim Thorpe & Tewanima Carlisle Indian School Real Photo Post cards SGC-Graded Pair (2). Jim Thorpe was nothing less than a world-class athlete who excelled in multiple sports and is regarded as one of the greatest athletes of the 20th century. His days as a semi-professional baseball player led to his gold medals in the 1912 Olympic pentathlon and decathlon striped from him and declared ineligible. Seventy years later, he did have his medals reinstated. Tewanima was a Hopi Indian who was on the same track & field team with Thorpe at the Carlisle Indian Industrial School. He would win the silver medal in the 10,000 meters at the 1912 Stockholm games. They might be the most famous Carlisle alumni other than Pop Warner who was their coach. Offered is a pair of rare real photo AZO format post cards dating them to the 1904-1918 era. Photos are both crisp and well developed with fine detail. Both have been Graded SGC Poor 1 for paper and glue as seen on the reverse. Technical grade aside, both offer exceptional visual appeal.
