The Original Art for the Most Iconic Anti-Nazi Propaganda Non-Sports Card in The Hobby!

1938 R68 Gum, Inc. Horrors of War Hitler Threatens Force to Free Sudetens #283 Original Artwork.
Both gruesome and gorgeous, the 1938 Horrors of War issue is unquestionably the most important and fascinating trading card set found within the voluminous subgenre of "Non-Sports." Delivering gum and gore to America's youth as global forces edged toward the greatest conflict in human history, the issue remains utterly unique in the entirety of the Standard Catalog for its unflinching journey into the darkest recesses of the human soul.

Universally considered the "key" entry of the 288-card set is number 283, entitled, "Hitler Threatens Force to Free Sudetens," a card lacking the overt violence of the majority, but chilling for the unprecedented barbarity it heralds. Hitler would make good on his threat, the first imperialist maneuver in a cascade of escalations that would catalyze into the Second World War. As wax packs containing this card were being sold at American five-and-dimes, the swastika was raised from Czechoslovakian flagpoles.

This one-and-only original artwork for the hobby's most important non-sports trading card finds the greatest villain of the twentieth century lighting the fuse of global conflict from a speaker's podium. Identical in size to the final printed product, the 2.5x3" ink and watercolor creation survives flawlessly but for adhesive residue (and a handwritten numeral) on verso that bears no effect on obverse. For a certain breed of intrepid collectors, this is the absolute Grail of the hobby.
