Circa 1905 A. G. Steglitz Novelty Postcards of Famous Stage Actresses (Series #477) Near Set (18/20). These oversized real photo novelties measure 2-13/16" by 8-1/32" and are noted for the hand applied colors, with an additional application of glitter highlights provided by their German photographer. The actresses are not named on the cards, but stars like Sandra Bernhardt and Anna Held (Flo Ziegfeld's wife) are readily apparent in the mix. When they occasionally turn up, these rare cards have almost always lost the majority of their glittering appliqué. These offered pieces are exceptional in that such loss from their surfaces is very limited, appearing as high grade examples on average. Missing #'s 15 and 16 for completion. Overall, they present at the excellent or better levels, a few have slight creasing and a few others have small spot areas of surface loss due to the glitter coming off.Auction Info
