    Description

1966 Topps "Comic Book Foldees" Complete Set (44), Display Box and Wrapper. The 1966-67 Topps "Comic Book Foldees" series is quite an odd concept, one that long-time card collector Woody Gelman borrowed from a 19th Century tobacco card set. The cards are 4-3/4" x 2-1/2" tri-panels with die-cut perforations and stamped joint impressions that allow for the interchanging of head and/or body sections from one image to another, creating nine different possible image combinations on each card! If you wanted to see Superman with the half-torso and legs of Gandhi--this was the set for you! The "Foldees" are very colorful and the center panels feature 44 of the DC Comics heroes and villains. The nature of this set makes unfolded fully intact panels pretty tough to find. This lot offers the complete 44-card set, a 5-cent wax paper wrapper and an original display box. The brightly colored box presents close to NM with just a few light creases in the top panel and one small area of surface loss, the wrapper presents EX-MT with usual fold lines and the set grades EX/MT to NM with some NM-MT and four lesser. This is a very hard set to complete, let alone at this level of quality.
