1893 World's Fair Tickets Near Sets Pair (2) With Original Envelopes. Chicago was the gateway to the world when the "World's Columbian Exposition" was held in 1893. So much more than just a typical fair, this event celebrated the 400th Anniversary of Christopher Columbus (when it was still politically correct to do so) and was a celebration of culture and society at large. The event exposed the city of Chicago showcasing it's architecture and the arts. Offered is a pair of near sets (four different) full May 1, 1893 tickets, each presenting at the EX to NM range, featuring Abe Lincoln, George Washington, Christopher Columbus and an unnamed Native American Indian Chief. Also included are envelopes from the Caxton Co. of Chicago which it seems handled unused tickets.
