1888 G97 Kinney "Butterflies of the World" Tobacco Advertising Banner. Offered is the second fragile 19th Century paper advertising banner that advertised the latest set of insert cards found inside packs of tobacco. They are among the most visually alluring and rarest collectible from this era and are prized additions to vintage collections. Offered is a full-color approx. 16-1/2" x 28" (visible area) very rare advertising poster for the Kinney Bros.' "Butterflies of the World " set issued in 1888. The banner design displays fifty professionally illustrated butterflies hovering over a pennant shaped gold-metallic ink banner. "N217" cards. The restoration is subtle and obviously the work of a professional. An exceptionally rare piece that has not been made available for auction very often. The paper banner promotes "Latest English," "Sweet Caporal" and "New York Standard" along with an offer to receive a copy of this same poster, sans advertising, in exchange for "fifty tickets "Of any Issue." Visually the poster presents excellently. There is obvious creasing largely at the upper and lower most regions. Professional restoration including mounting, cleaning and color enhancement of creases and small spots of loss has been performed. Matted and framed to 22-3/8" x 33-5/8" outer dimension.Auction Info
