Description

1888 G24 Allen & Ginter "The World's Racers" (N32) Tobacco Banner. Horse racing is an endearing sport where for some the appeal is the thrilling sights and sounds of the race usually ending in dramatic fashion at the finish line. For others, it is the vision of majestic animals in competition which dates back many centuries. It was in 1888 when Allen & Ginter produced a beautiful set of 50 trading cards inserted into tobacco packages of Richmond Straight Cut No. 1 and Virginia Brights Cigarettes titled "The World's Racers, entry N32 in the American Card Catalog that any 19th century card buff is aware of. What we offer here is a strikingly rare advertising banner made for in-store promotion. The 16" x 28" banner on thin paper stock is highlighted by images of all fifty of the cards surrounding the portrait of a majestic stallion inside a large horseshoe in elegant gold metallic ink. The exceptional printing is credited to "Lindner, Eddy & Clauss, N.Y.," which is found along the bottom. There are multiple but light to modest creases and forgivable tears coming in from the edges. As a bonus, the original metal runners are still attached. We would call the strict technical grading Very Good but the lack of heavy creasing and flat mounting free of unsightly stock waviness creating lasting visual appeal just waiting to be mounted to the wall of a man cave for any size horse ranch. A perfect gift for any card collector or horse fan. Overall dimensions including framing and matting is 22" x 34."

Guide Value or Estimate: $4,000 - up.
