Sizeable 19th Century Trade Card Collection (91). A close cousin to the colorful and highly detailed insert cards circulated inside packs of tobacco were advertising or trade cards that maintained the same level of lithographic quality. Offered is a gallery of 90 trade cards plus one "Bicycle Trick Riders" Duke & Sons tobacco card. Products and advertisers include: Household Sewing Machine Co., dry goods, groceries, boots, shoes, and hardware, Bakeries, Mowers, Tobogganing/Sledding, Royal Cream Chocolate, Corsets, Shoes, Day & Martin Boots, Books, Stationery, Fancy Goods, Notions Fashion, Medicines, Staple and Fancy dry goods, Watches, Insect Powder, Watches, Clocks, Jewelry, Singer Sewing Machine, Tobacco, Hats, Grocery, Picture Frames, Children's Clothes, Locks, Books, Soap, Cigars, Buttons, Furniture, Dairy Products, Baby Food, Glue and Fertilizing Materials, Flowers, Theaters and some Christmas Greeting Cards. A couple are diecut. Most have one or a combination of the following affecting the reverse - pencil marks, glue staining, glue residue and surface loss. Very few have loss and a few have clipped/missing corners. Technically lower grade (PR to GD) but visually impressive and a fascinating glimpse into 19th Century marketing.
