Offered is a gallery of five scarce N174 Old Judge "Celebrities and Prizefighters" non-sports cards featuring political leaders and personalities of the Victorian era. These cards are rarely seen. Each and every one of the five cards is the one and only card graded to date by SGC! Includes: Sir Thomas Spencer Wells was a medical professor and president of the Royal College of Surgeons of England and served as the personal surgeon to Queen Victoria. Graded SGC 55 VG/EX+ 4.5; Charles Stewart Parnell (June 1846 - October 1891) was an Irish landlord, nationalist political leader, land reform agitator, and the founder and leader of the Irish Parliamentary Party. He was one of the most important figures in 19th century Great Britain and Ireland, and was described by Prime Minister William Gladstone as the most remarkable person he had ever met. Graded SGC 55 VG/EX+ 4.5; Sir Arthur Seymour Sullivan MVO (May 1842 - November 1900) was an English composer best known for his series of 14 operatic collaborations with W. S. Gilbert including The Pirates of Penzance and The Mikado. Sullivan composed over twenty operas, over a dozen major orchestral works plus choral works, oratorios, ballets, partial scores to several plays and a multitude of hymns and church pieces. His most noted piece being "Onward Christian Soldiers." Graded SGC 40 VG 3; John Bright (November 1811 - March 1889) served in the House of Commons from 1843 to 1889. He was a British hard-line Liberal and is known as one of the great orators of his generation. He, in-part founded the Anti-Corn Law League aimed at abolishing the Corn Laws which pushed up food prices and protected landowners. Graded SGC 30 Good 2; George Joachim Goschen, 1st Viscount Goschen (August 1831 - February 1907) was a British statesman who was initially a Liberal who became a member of the Conservative Party. While Chancellor of the Exchequer, he introduced the Goschen formula to allocate funding for Scotland and Ireland. Graded SGC 40 VG 3.
