1950's - 1970's Topps & Leaf Funny Monsters/You'll Die Laughing/Monster Laffs Collection (625+). Includes: 1959 Bubbles, Inc. (Topps) Funny Monsters/You'll Die Laughing (57). Some duplication. While monsters are popular with kids at any time during the year, Topps probably issued this set during the Halloween season. And who would've been more appropriate as the set's artist than EC's master of horror, Jack Davis? Davis's additional ability to make any subject matter humorous, no matter how horrific, marked him as the obvious choice for a card set that was designed to be chockfull of ghouls, goblins, werewolves, witches, vampires, and other things that go bump in the night! As a result, Topps' "Funny Monsters" set is one of the stand-out efforts of its period. Grades 36% EX to EX/MT, 64% VG to VG/EX with some lesser; 1961 Leaf "Spook Stories" (52) - A few duplicates. Leafs' "Spook Stories" consisted of simple black and white monster photos which are matched with funny (well, most are) captions. Images are taken from classic Hollywood horror films which exposed a whole new generation to these characters and the original stars who made them come to life on film. Lot has close to even mix of 1st and 2nd series cards. Grades VG to EX with some nicer and some lesser; 1966 Topps "Monster Laffs" (236). Contains 39 different cards plus many extras. Grades 76% EX to EX/MT with some NM, 24% VG to VG/EX with lesser/miscut; 1973 Topps Creature Feature "You'll Die Laughing-1973" (284) - Contains one 105-card near set plus extras. Although almost a decade had passed, this would be the second series Topps would use the "You'll Die Laughing" name. The cards kept the same simple design of a black & white photo paired with a sarcastic caption. Grades % EX to EX/MT with some nicer, 45% VG to VG/EX or lesser with some miscut; 1980 Creature Feature (7) - Grades EX/MT to NM.Auction Info
