Description

1941 Delorge's Bread Superman Junior Defense League "A Weighty Subject" (Pledge #2). When it came to WW II it was all hands-on deck with every able bodied man, woman or child had to do their part. In 1941, the "Superman Junior Defense League of America" was a promotion to encourage patriotism in the USA's younger citizens. The SJDL allowed kids to become members for free. Soon the participants will receive a membership certificate. A now rare set of eight thin paper cards appeared in loaves of bread marked with various brands. Each card had a 2-3/4" x 1" pledge stamp, or coupon attached where for a set of all eight stamps could be returned to Superman, Inc. for a wearable badge featuring the last son of Krypton. The colorful, 2-3/4" x 3" cards feature Superman doing what he does best - saving the day.

This presentation is one of six of the eight cards, all with the original stamp still attached being offered in this auction. Offered is pledge #2 with card #10 "A Weighty Subject" with an "Eat DELORGE'S PRIZE WINNER BREAD" ad with the date/time to listen to Superman on W.C.S.H. radio. Presents excellent-mint with off-center scene.
