Circa 1890 McLoughlin Bros "Game of Authors" Card Game with Box. In addition to the tobacco insert card "craze," the late 19th century also saw the growth of the playing cards. These productions had the distinction of having their own packaging, usually thick card board box often with colorful and professionally rendered illustrations adorning the outside. Offered is a "Game of Authors" produced by McLoughlin Bro's. in the 1890's. The 2-piece box does show its age but presents nicely. Inside, we find 47 of the 48 "cards" (missing #10C) and 92 game pieces. Cards are numbered 1-12 plus the letter A, B, C or D. Sadly, a sheet or card with the rules of play is no longer present. The box cover has surface wear and splits at two corners, the bottom half has writing and an child's bird drawing. The cards are mostly VG to EX, the game pieces are EX or better.
