1938 R69 Gum, Inc. Horrors of War "Hitler's Border Tour Raises War Scare" #277 Original Artwork. The 1938 Horrors of War issue is unquestionably the most important and fascinating trading card set found within the voluminous subgenre of "Non-Sports." Delivering gum and gore to America's youth as global forces edged toward the greatest conflict in human history, the issue remains utterly unique in the entirety of the Standard Catalog for its unflinching journey into the darkest recesses of the human soul. One of the "key" entries of the 288-card set, our offered are was produced for card number 277, entitled, "Hitler's Border Tour Raises War Scare." The card lacks the overt violence one expects, but delivers a sinister and historically accurate depiction. This one-and-only original artwork for the hobby's most important non-sports trading card finds the greatest villain of the twentieth century lighting the fuse of global conflict from a speaker's podium. Identical in size to the final printed product, the approx. 2.5x3" ink and watercolor creation survives flawlessly but for adhesive residue and a handwritten numeral on verso (done for production purposes that bears no effect on obverse.
