    Description

1938 R69 Gum Inc. "Horrors of War" Complete Set (288) Plus Five Scarce Prize/Promo Backs. One of the most popular non-sports sets in the hobby. This edition was an ingenious vehicle to bring war propaganda to an impressionable young generation... all neatly wrapped in wax paper with a sugary piece of gum. The set is by far the most graphic and violent filled productions ever with a few appearances by Adolf Hitler to top off the gruesome fun. The images are gory at times but always colorful with the history behind them. The "key" cards include: #'s 1 Marco Polo Bridge... (VG/EX, printer ink splash), 240 The Frightful Cost of War (FR), 277 Hitler's Border Tour... (VG/EX), 283 Hitler Threatens Force... (GD/VG), 284 (VG/EX), 285 (VG/EX) and 286 Chamberlain Meets Hitler... (VG/EX). As a bonus, there are five cards (#'s 106, 113, 114, 192 and 197) which have the scarce overprint stamp for a free pack of cards or an advertisement for the 240-card set. Grade 10% EX, 70% VG to VG/EX, 15% PR to GD, 5% hand cut/color touched.
