1896 E231 "Yellow Kid Chewing Gum" PSA-Graded Trio (3). "The Yellow Kid" was the politically incorrect named brainchild of cartoonist R. F. Outcault. The bald youngster originally made brief appearances in Hogan's Alley and was named for the color of his nightshirt which went from blue to yellow. "The Yellow Kid" became his official name. The character was so popular he received his own set of 25 trading cards issued by Adams Chewing Gum in 1896 under the brand "Yellow Kid Chewing Gum." The 2-3/4" x 4-3/8" paper thin cards make few appearances in 20th and 21st Century auction catalogs. Offered is a trio of PSA graded examples. The lot includes: #'s 1 (PSA Good 2), 7 (PSA VG-EX+ 4.5) and 8 (PSA Good+ 2.5).

The hammer price for my Mantle card significantly exceeded my admittedly conservative estimations, and I couldn't be more pleased.
