"The Yellow Kid" was the politically incorrect brainchild of cartoonist R. F. Outcault. The bald youngster originally made brief appearances in Hogan's Alley and was named for the color of his nightshirt which went from blue to yellow. The character was so popular he received his own set of 25 trading cards and gum issued by Adams Chewing Gum in 1896.
