    Description

1890's Custom Bound Volume of Nine Duke, Sons & Co. Tobacco Card Albums. Another first for this veteran hobbyist is this custom bound, saddle stitched volume comprised of all nine albums promoting Duke, Sons & Co. 19th Century tobacco insert card series. Measuring 10-1/2" x 7," the outer covers plus spine appears to be made of leather which has seen better times. The front cover is loose but the interior binding is firm and back cover is attached. Inside the front cover has a hand numbered (#1773) foil-sticker and a sticker shaped like a sheriff's badge which reads, "Eugene Von Boeckmann, Printer and Bookbinder, 913 Congress Avenue, AUSTIN, TEXAS." The approx. 2" think relic includes the albums (in order as they appear): A30-N126 Rulers, Coats of Arms and Flags, A27-N133 State and Territorial Governors, Coats of Arms, A34-N 91 Yacht Colors of the World, N73 Fancy Dress Ball Costumes, N82 Musical Instruments, A26-N70/71 Costumes of All Nations (Actors & Actresses), A28-N78 Heroes of the Civil War (Histories of Generals), A33-N88 The Terrors of America and A31-N87 Shadows. A few pages designed to mount stamps from different countries follows. Inner pages include most front and back covers and appear to be complete. Interior pages show corner wear, a few have creases. A extremely colorful and very rare and intriguing 19th Century piece.
