1888 N36 Allen & Ginter Geronimo SGC 84 NM 7 - Pop Two, None Higher. Few sets stand above the multitude of 19th Century tobacco cards like the series "The American Indian" produced for Allen & Ginter in 1888. Each stunning card offers a seemingly endless array of hues paired with a lithographic quality that certainly had to have been years ahead of its time. The man gracing the front of this card is Native-American warrior, leader and medicine man--Geronimo. His name followed him when Mexican soldiers prayed to St. Jerome (Jeronimo) upon experiencing his rage during an attack which was in response to the senseless raiding of his village where he lost his wife, children and mother. The offered card has been graded NM 7 by SGC and is worthy of every point. There are no stains, no creases, no wrinkles and close to precise centering. The grade is the result of brief segments of roughness (typical on a thick card like this) and the slight bluntness of one corner. The colors jump off the bright white wax coated front, the back is printed without imperfection. The second, maybe equally so, most important entry next to "Sitting Bull" in this breathtaking series.
