This auction features a selection of scarce N174 Old Judge "Celebrities and Prizefighters" non-sports cards featuring political leaders and personalities of the Victorian era including Queen Victoria herself. This presentation is for a Goodwin & Co. N174 Old Judge Card featuring: Queen Liliuokalani Sand Islands that has been graded SGC 45 VG+ 3.5. Queen Kapi?olani (1834-1899) was married to King Kalakaua and reigned as Queen Consort of the Kingdom of Hawaii. Her full name was Kapiolani Napelakapuokakae. Kapi?olani was born to High Chief Kuhio Kalaniana?ole of Hilo and High Chiefess Kinoiki Kekaulike of Kaua?i, the daughter of King Kaumuali?i and was after her great-aunt High Chiefess Kapi?olani, who defied the goddess Pele in the name of Christianity. Queen Kapi?olani traveled to London in 1887 to attend Queen Victoria's 50th Jubilee celebration. Although educated and spoke English, she refused to speak anything but Hawaiian. She established the Kapi?olani Maternity Home, where Hawaiian mothers could receive care, as well as their newborn babies. It survives today as the Kapi?olani Medical Center. As mentioned, this is the first and currently the only example recorded on the SGC census report!
