Description

Mid-1960's Pelé Game Worn Jersey. The international equivalent of a Babe Ruth pinstriped flannel, except perhaps one hundred times more important upon a global scale, worn by the most revered player in history of the world's most popular sport. Predicted by observers to one day be the greatest soccer player that ever lived as early as the age of fifteen, it was only a year later that Pelé would sign with the Santos club he came to represent for close to two decades. Many European clubs sought to extricate this singularly unique talent from Santos with the offer of extravagant fees, leading the Brazilian government to take the countermeasure of declaring Pelé "an official national treasure" in order to prevent his transfer from the country.

The presented jersey dates to the height of Pelé's talents and fame, and bears the distinctive Santos Football Club crest over the heart, with the two stars above denoting the pair of League Championships earned during the years of Pelé's service. His celebrated number "10" appears on verso in black tackle twill. Sao Paulo "Hering" manufacturer's tagging is present inside collar. Fine wear is clearly evident, infusing the cotton body with a softness born of battle in the hot Brazilian sun. A picture-perfect example of what many would consider the most important and desirable athletic jersey on earth. Guide Value or Estimate: $8,000 - $12,000.
