Only a few weeks ago, The Eagles were in the middle of their "Hotel California" tour, playing that classic 1976 album in its entirety - for the first time, ever -- along with a greatest-hits set. Shows lasted for more than three hours - a break from the 24/7 news cycle, Don Henley would say from the stage. The reviews from the road were stellar.
"Exuberance is not a word usually associated with an Eagles performance, and maybe it's a bit strong to use here, but between Joe Walsh's endearing goofiness, sweet smiles between Walsh and Deacon Frey whenever they jammed together or the usually reserved Don Henley declaring 'We are crusty old veterans, but you have touched our hearts,' they came pretty darn close to it," said Billboard.
"The Eagles Fly High With Epic 'Hotel California' Show at Madison Square Garden," read the Rolling Stone headline. The hometown Dallas Morning News wrote, too, that "for three all-too-brief hours, the audience remembered how magical concerts can be when you're not too distracted to actually watch and listen."
And then ... it was over, for how long no one knew. A global pandemic had sidelined the Henley, Walsh, Frey, Timothy B. Schmit and Vince Gill until who knows when. Dates for the spring had been reset until fall 2020. But only days ago the tour was given a new restart: fall 2021. Fingers crossed.
During this painfully protracted moment between shows, Don Henley has offered to help his hometown North Dallas Food Bank: When he caught wind of this auction, he sent a note offering to write the lyrics to "Desperado," which are being sold separately, and this guitar signed by the current iteration of the band featuring Joe Walsh, Timothy B. Schmit, Deacon Frey, Vince Gill and Don Henley.
He sent the note on a Thursday. The guitar arrived Friday morning.
Bid high. Touch Don Henley's heart. And keep in mind: This is the closest anyone's getting to the Eagles for more than a year.
Heritage Auctions, the world's largest collectibles auction house, is proud to partner with the Dallas Cowboys, Dallas Mavericks, Texas Rangers, Dallas Stars and FC Dallas for this once-in-a-lifetime auction benefiting the North Texas Food Bank. 100% of the proceeds will go toward the food bank, which is being overwhelmed by a global pandemic that has strained local resources and left many of our neighbors in need. Bidding opens April 29 and runs through May 13, culminating with a live auction that begins at 8 p.m. Dallas time.
