Description
2005 Lionel Messi F.C. Barcelona Jersey Attributed to November 27, 2005 Game vs. Racing Santander with Photographic Provenance. Lionel Messi's early career at Barcelona, which began in earnest with his debut in 2004, is a period marked by rapid ascent and the unmistakable hint of the legend he was to become. Joining Barcelona's famed La Masia academy at the tender age of 13, Messi's talent was evident from the start. His progression through the ranks was meteoric, culminating in his first-team debut at just 16 during a friendly match. By the 2004-2005 season, Messi had secured a spot on Barcelona's senior team, showcasing a blend of dribbling, speed, and an innate footballing intellect that belied his age.In his debut La Liga season, Messi's impact was immediate, earning him comparisons to Barcelona's then-star Ronaldinho. His first official goal for the club, a clever lob against Albacete in May 2005, symbolized the arrival of football's next great talent. Despite facing challenges, including struggles with injuries, Messi's early years were defined by his remarkable feats on the pitch, contributing to Barcelona's domestic and European successes.
These formative years at Barcelona were not just about Messi's growth as a player but also about his journey towards becoming an integral part of the club's golden era. His development was nurtured by a supportive environment and a belief in his extraordinary abilities, setting the stage for a career filled with records, accolades, and the adoration of fans worldwide.
Presented is one of the earliest Messi jerseys ever made available at auction, with provenance suggesting it was worn in a 4-1 F.C. Barcelona victory over Racing Santander on November 27, 2005 that saw the eighteen-year old phenom score what would prove to be the winning goal in the 52nd minute of play. It was classic Messi magic, receiving the ball about thirty meters from the goal and then beating a defender in the box before sliding the ball past the keeper just inside the left post. Barcelona would proceed onward to defeat Arsenal in the Champions League Final to assert global dominance.
An included letter of provenance from our consignor asserts that he acquired this jersey through a mutual friend of Argentinian actor Ricardo Darin as a thirtieth birthday gift, and our online listing will provide an image of the young Messi gifting this jersey to the actor in the post-game press conference following the victory over Racing Santander.
The lightweight long-sleeved jersey features the "FCB" team crest patch affixed over the heart, with "Messi 30" screened to verso. We should note that a small area of loss to the "E" in "Messi" occurred after the photograph of the press conference was complete. Left sleeve holds a patch for TV3 Catalunya, the television station sponsoring the team, while a "La Liga" decal patch is affixed to right sleeve. Interior collar holds "Nike" branding with "Size M" identifier. Marvelous game wear is evident throughout. LOA from Heritage Auctions.
