2005 Afleet Alex Belmont Stakes Winner's Trophy Presented to Jockey Jeremy Rose. One of two Triple Crown trophies presented within this October 2018 Signature auction from the personal collection of Jeremy Rose, who rode Afleet Alex to victory in the second and third races of the 2005 series. This prize awarded for the latter features a considerably more aesthetically impressive design than its slighly older sibling, featuring four figural horses scattered about the lidded winner's cup.Those hoping for high drama in this last of the Triple Crown races went home disappointed, as Afleet Alex increased his sizeable margin of victory he had enjoyed at the Preakness, besting second-place finisher Andromeda's Hero by seven lengths, winning in 2:28.75. Spectators will recall Afleet Alex's high-octane "kick" as he entered the final stretch, his 24.50-second final quarter mile the fastest since Arts and Letters in 1969.
The trophy measures approximately ten inches (10") in height including the figural horse atop the lid, which is engraved, "The Belmont Stakes, NYRA, Belmont, June 11, 2005, Won By Cash Is King Stables, Afleet Alex, Jockey Jeremy Rose." Again, light tarnishing is the only condition caveat to report for this flawlessly preserved symbol of excellence. Diameter across cup is seven and a half inches (7.5") and total weight is eighty-seven ounces (87 oz.). Letter of provenance from consignor.
