1976 Olympic Swimming Original Painting by LeRoy Neiman. Among the most famous American artists of any age or genre, Neiman was likewise one of the most prolific, yet the enormous demand for his distinctive, kaleidoscopic works remains far from satiated. The continued upward trajectory of sale prices, a trend sure to continue in the wake of his recent passing, is firm evidence of this.

Here the artist turns his skills toward amateur sports' most celebrated international summit. If the image looks familiar, that's likely because the oil on board masterpiece was widely reproduced in serigraph form. But there's only one original, and this is it, a particularly large and colorful work, even by Neiman's standards. The famed sports artist's swirling style is particularly effective here, capturing the churning of the water at the Montreal Olympic Pool.

The United States men were completely dominant this year of the American bicentennial, claiming twelve of the thirteen events, and twenty-seven of the thirty-nine medals awarded for them. Many consider the Montreal Games to be American swimming's finest hour.

Dimensions are 19.5x40", with high-quality framing extending them to 33x53". Fine condition.
