Description

1956 Stockholm Summer Olympics Rare Equestrian Bronze Third-Place Medal. A Holy Grail among Olympic medal collectors, this exceedingly rare relic is different than all other 1956 winners' medals due to the fact that strict animal quarantine laws in Australia forced a relocation of equestrian events from Melbourne to Stockholm, Sweden. Obverse design is by John Sjosvard, while verso is the V. Falireus design that had been used for 1952 medals in Oslo Only a dozen medals were struck for each of the three podium spots for the equestrian events. Diameter 50 mm. Weight 90 grams. "Jagerstroms/Mjojby" edge marking. Fine condition.
