1956 Melbourne Summer Olympics Bronze Medal. One of 290 third-place metals created for this first Summer Games to be contested in neither Europe nor the United States. The design by Giuseppe Cassioli features a seated victory holding a laurel wreath and palm branch at obverse, with text announcing, "XVIth Olympiad Melbourne 1956." A shoulder-high athlete appears on reverse. Local Melbourne mint "K.G. Luke" stamp appears in small text at bottom of obverse. Sadly, the details of the original ownership have been lost. Fine, undamaged condition.
