Arguably the most important edition of the modern Games, this Berlin summit of the world's top athletes occurred in the shadow of rising evil of the Third Reich. Historic third-place medal bears a design by Giuseppe Cassioli featuring seated Victory holding laurel wreath and palm, Roman Colosseum in background. Verso reveals victor carried by jubilant athletes, stadium in background. "B.H. Mayer Pforzheim" edge mark. Weight is 74 g., diameter 55 mm. Fine condition.
