1928 Helen Wills French Open Women's Singles Winner's Medal. A pair of historic firsts are represented by this impressive victor's prize. The 1928 edition would prove to be the first of four French Opens (1928, 1929, 1930, 1932) from which Ms. Wills would emerge the Ladies' Singles Champion. Likewise, the 1928 event is noteworthy as the inaugural edition contested at the newly-constructed Stade de Roland Garros, where the tournament is housed to this day.

Seeded number one at the beginning of the 1928 tournament, Wills was thoroughly dominant in each of her six matches, never losing more than two games in any set, inclusive of her Finals victory over eighth-seeded Eileen Bennett of Great Britain.

Obverse of the medal features a crowned Victory figure in flowing robes, framed by text reading "Ville de Paris," and the city's Latin motto "Fluctuat nec mergitur." (It is tossed by the waves, but does not sink.)

Verso is adorned with a laurel wreath, text stating "Departement de la Seine," and the engraved lettering attributing the prize to the victor: "Federation Francaise de Lawn-Tennis, Prix de la Ville de Paris, Miss H. Wills, 1928."

Medal measures two inches in diameter, and is marked "Argent" on the edge, the French word for "silver." Minimal tarnishing represents the totality of condition issues. Housed in original hinged cardboard case.
